Reflected ceiling dials are not common. A mirror is laid horizontally on a north-facing window sill - if you live in the southern hemisphere - or on a pole outside of the window. The hour lines are drawn on the ceiling. They will have the shape of a slightly distorted 8. The sun spot will tell you not only the time, but also the date.
